FDA Recalls DePuy Hip Replacement Devices

Due to numerous complications associated with the DePuy ASR Hip Resurfacing System and the ASR XL Acetabular System, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has initiated a voluntary recall on the devices. The DePuy Hip Replacement Recall began in August of 2010, but numerous patients continue to report problems today.

Joints can deteriorate due to age or injury. But thanks to technology and medical advancements, synthetic implants can be used to replace damaged joints. Hip replacements have become one of the most common joint replacement surgeries.

One manufacturer of replacement hip joints, Stryker Orthopedics, has initiated a voluntary recall of their hip replacement system after it was deemed a Defective Medical Device.

Michigan Seat Belt Use Hits 90 Percent

Automobile seat belt use nationwide has hit an all-time high of 86 percent, according to new safety numbers.

And in Michigan and the 31 other states where it is against the law not to buckle up the compliance rate is 90 percent.

Toyota Tacomas in Michigan Are Recalled

Due to a manufacturing error in its Tacoma midsized pickup, auto manufacturer Toyota is recalling 150,000 models. The trucks fall between model years 2001 and 2004. Sold or registered throughout almost two dozen cold-weather states including Michigan, the Tacoma model is being recalled because it has been discovered the spare tire has the potential to fall out.
